Speaking more than one language is a
great advantage
God has created man and favored him
among all creatures. He created the earth for man and made him the only
creature that can think and talk. Human started learning languages since
ancient times, he used it to tell his story on walls of caves and temples so
that he can live forever. Thus, learning a language is a matter of life or
death. Dictionaries define languages as the vessel that human uses to transport
his thoughts and knowledge to other people, he uses language to communicate
with others and interact with them. As a result man is always keen in learning
a new language as it has many advantages.
Learning your native language and being
fluent in it is a brilliant thing to do, but learning a foreign language is the
best experience one can go through. Being bilingual makes you open to all new
cultures, it makes you think in two different ways and it makes you never feel
alone. When a person speaks two languages, he will be able to make new friends
of this language. He also will be able to learn the culture and the history of
this language and know the attributes of its people. He won't feel afraid when
he travels to a foreign country because he can speak their language and can
communicate easily with them. Learning more than one language makes you a
special person among your peers; you will always be the one that they need when
they are dealing with other cultures. Another thing, when you learn the
language of science in your time, you will of course be able to understand
science and explain it more easily to your family and friends. Moreover, when
you graduate from university having learned more than one language, your
opportunities to get hired will be doubled; you will be the one that every company
wants to invite him to join its crew. Also learning the language of the enemies
makes you safe from their dangers and gives you the strength over them.
History has proven to us that the country
that knows the languages of its enemies is always safe from dangers. This
clearly appears in our Islamic culture when prophet Mohamed (Peace be up him)
asked Hassan Ebn Thabet (God bless him) to learn the language of Jews, which
was surrealism, because he fears that Jews might change verses in
Holy Quran, so Hassan Ebn Thabet (God bless him) learned that language in only
seventeen days. And in modern times we can see the western people learn Arabic,
Chinese and Russian languages because they fear the people who speak these
languages, so learning languages is a battle for survival.
In conclusion
we can say that learning new languages is a big joy for individuals and it is
also a big benefit for society and country. When a person learns a new
language, he will be able to increase his knowledge, his friends and his
relationships. Also learning the language of enemies makes you know how to deal
with them and how to stay safe from their dangers.
